Sign the Petitions
A word on the petitions
Petitions express to the Government of Canada, and others, the concerns of citizens, and ask for action to create change according to the will of the people who sign them. Our petitions claim that the elimination of the CBC Radio Orchestra and the changes at Radio 2 are damaging our national identity and ask for their reinstatement and stable multi-year support. We have listed most of the changes on our Chronology of Cuts page.
Two types of petitions - paper & online
Paper Petitions
Paper petitions may be presented to parliament on an ongoing basis. You may send one yourself, or send it to us to forward to parliament. See below. Only paper petitions that follow government guidelines are able to be acted on by the Parliament of Canada. These petitions must clearly make a request of government to take action on a single issue. Only petitions with the signator’s original signature, printed name, and address listed (either street address + city, or province + postal code) are admissable. See the government guidelines for petitions here.
Now available: a downloadable petition to send to the House of Commons with original signatures. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE: When you sign the petition, you must get a total of at least 25 signatures for the petition to be considered by the House of Commons. You may use the back side of the downloaded petition, or additional sheets, as long as the petition title appears on additional sheet.
If you have 25 or more signatures, you may send by regular post, free of charge to:
House of Commons
Ottawa, Ontario
K1A 0A6
Or you can still send it to us at the address below, because we like to count how many are using our petition. If you have less than 25 signatures, send to our address and we’ll bundle it with others.
Stand on Guard for CBC Coalition
#289 - 720 Sixth St.,
New Westminster, BC V3L 3C5
The Stand on Guard for CBC Coalition has received over 3400 petition signature sent to our mailing address.
Online Petitions
are very popular as a quick way to express your displeasure. Unfortunately, such petitions are “unofficial” petitions that cannot be presented in the House of Commons. Only petitions that have signatures on a paper petition are acceptable. See the government guidelines for petitions here.
We endorse the online petition to Save the CBC Radio Orchestra. Please visit the petition site here.
We also encourage you to sign the Restore CBC Radio Two petition which calls for the restoration of pre-March 2007 programming–Two New Hours and the evening classical music.
