Action of the Week
Summer 2009
Keep track of as much information as possible about CBC management and the federal government’s handling of CBC during the economic downturn and all assaults by either on public broadcasting. Post your findings here, if you like, by becoming a contributor. To do so, first register on the site (lower right corner), then email to standonguardforcbc [at] earsay [dot] com with a request to elevate your status from “subscriber” to “contributor”.
January 2
Write to your MP (regardless of political party of which they are a member) and tell them you are aware that the Conservative government has a plan to cut 200 million dollars from the CBC allocation and explain why you think there is a beter way to deal with the problems at CBC than cutting funding. Listen to Friends of CBC December 26 pocast for more information.
December 3
Please sign the AVAAZ petition - 19,000 signatures in the first 24 hours.

Contact your Liberal, NDP, or Bloc Québecois member of Parliament and let them know you favour the forming of a Coalition Federal Government of Liberal/NDP/Bloc.
We in the Stand On Guard for CBC Coalition gladly recognize the unanimous all-party support of our cause at the Heritage Committee meeting in summer 2008. Canadians of all politcal affiliations care about our shared culture and humanity. We understand the CBC is an institution that allows us to hear one another and to understand what it means to be Canadian. Though many Conservative party members sympathize with this view, it has become evident that this Conservative Government will not change its approach to the CBC and its management. They remain secretive and unaccountable, citing the “arms-length” clause in the Broadcast Act as an excuse for taking no action on the cultural transformation at CBC. We believe our only hope for movement on these issues is the appointment of a new Board of Directors. Since the Board is appointed by government, we need a new government to have any hope of changing the present, self-destructive policies of the CBC.
So we urge you to contact your Liberal, NDP, or Bloc Quebecois MP this weekend. Let them know you favour the formation of a Coalition Government of the Liberal, NDP, and Bloc Quebecois. (If you have doubts about the Bloc Québécois, just look at everything in their cultural mandate, ignoring the separatist question, and you’ll see they could easily be part of such a coalition.)

BACK TO THE BLOGS!!!
Activists: keep reading the news online and register at the newspaper web sites and comment on the articles! As one of our leaders, Karl Rabb has said:
“Preaching to the converted is fine, but a
little fighting spirit would seem in order here. What are we waiting
for? A few mouse clicks don’t take much time. Yes, you have to
register first, but you don’t have to use your name.”
