Listeners share sense of betrayal

People of all ages wrote in. Many were young people protesting the
stereotype that CBC aficionados are a bunch of grey-haired retirees. They
considered Radio 2 part of their education. As one well-respected member of
Winnipeg’s musical community put it: “The CBC has set the standard over the
years for artistic excellence in classical music and can take much of the
credit for ‘building a fire in the bellies of gifted musicians’ to study and
practise hard … Someday, maybe they would perform on the CBC! …
Extraordinary work doesn’t just happen; a good musician needs something to
aspire to!”
