About the history of Stand On Guard for CBC

Q: How did this Stand On Guard for CBC movement get started?

A: On the morning of March 27, 2008, a number of musicians and concerned citizens got word of a CBC “internal memo” that was leaked to Regional Director of the Canadian Music Centre, Colin Miles, who then informed many musicians and concerned citizens in Vancouver that the Director of Radio Music, Mark Steinmetz, was arriving from Toronto to make an announcement that Steinmetz described in the memo as “an internal matter.” It turned out to be the announcement that the Radio Orchestra would be cut. The reaction from the community of music professionals and CBC listeners was immediate and swift. At a meeting three days later at the home of Colin Miles, with about 35 very prominent musicians, composers, philanthropists, and producers in attendance, Stand On Guard for CBC Coalition was born.
