Why We Need the CBCRO

The CBC Radio Orchestra is viewed by the professional music community as one of the top orchestras in Canada and one of the top radio orchestras in the world.

The CBC Radio Orchestra has commissioned more Canadian music than any other orchestra. The musicians of the orchestra are specialists in the preparation of new Canadian musical creations. No other orchestra in the country has this collective experience.

The CBC Radio Orchestra has launched the careers of many young Canadian conductors, soloists, and composers, most of whom have gone on to international careers.

The CBC Radio Orchestra, when allowed to record its work in its own studio, is a very efficient, cost-effective, and aesthetically-productive way to communicate Canadian musical culture to the entire country. The CBC Radio Orchestra provides Canadians from coast to coast to coast with the opportunity to hear the musical voices of our nation.

This is only a small sampling of the many reasons that Canada needs the CBCRO,

Here’s a Los Angeles Times review of an October 2006 CBCRO concert that gives historical and contemporary reasons why the orchestra is so culturally relevant.
